South Australian Defence Hackathon 2024

22-23 June 2024

OVERVIEW

The South Australian Defence Hackathon 2024 was designed to shape future engineers in Australia's defence sector.

The event was centred on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). It fostered an environment where teams collaborate yet compete, closely emulating real-world defence settings.

The hackathon was in the format of a 24 hour design and build challenge. There were four pre-hackathon workshops included to prepare participants for the event.

Workshop Details

To prepare participants, four pre-event workshops at Lot Fourteen offered tutorials on hardware and software available for use. These elements cohesively served DEGSA's mission to enhance graduate development in defence engineering.

  • Workshop #1 - What to Expect at the Hackathon! by DEGSA (Friday 2nd of February at 5:30pm)

  • Workshop #2 - Runlinc Chip Tutorial  by STEMSEL Foundation (Friday 9th of February at 5:30pm)

  • Workshop #3 - Simulation Software Workshop by Ansys (Friday 16th of February at 5:30pm)

  • Workshop #4 - MBSE Software Tutorial by IoT Consultants (Friday 23rd of February at 5:30pm)

CPD Details

All eligible engineers who participated in this hackathon received CPD points from Engineers Australia, to work towards their Chartered Engineering (CPEng) status. Participants were required to attend four workshops and the Hackathon to receive CPD (six hours of credit).
